According to me this quote captures the essence of a political debate.

A political debate is a battle of different believes / opinions. A battle fought with arguments. Arguments which relate to the subject at hand. Arguments targeted at convincing, sharpening of the mind, forcing someone to see things form a different perspective, getting someone to understand another mans believes. This way a political debate is something productive.

In my opinion dirty politics and personal attacks during a debate are counter productive. When you think you need to make it personal to win, consider the battle lost. Retreat & rethink and prepare yourself for the next debate. Tricks might win you this battle but the war will be lost. Our nation will not become 'more perfect' that way.

Intro

The Young People and Politics Foundation was founded on August 28, 2009 to bridge the gap between the youth and politics in Curaçao.

We believe that the political power of young people should be built in order to achieve progressive change in our country. We are young, fresh, enthusiastic, energized and independent. We empower young people who want to claim their voice in the political process and change the way politics is done.

Vision

To awaken the passion for political awareness and involvement in all young people of Curaçao and create a sustainable and attractive political environment in Curaçao , in which active participation of young people is a condition sine qua non.

Mission

Our mission is to encourage political awareness and invigorate political activism among young people of Curaçao through unrelenting empowerment and continuous sharing of knowledge, resources and experiences.

Goal

The goal of Young People and Politics is to increase the participation and effectiveness of young people in politics by Educating, Empowering, and Energizing young people through:

- Access to resources (information and expertise of others, experts and practitioners);
- Building knowledge (discussion forums, information exchange and expert responses to queries); and
- Sharing experiences (facilitate the exchange of lessons learned)
